When planning our digital nomad trip to Sri Lanka, the first thing we looked into was the coworking spaces in Ahangama. Since the island still deals with occasional power cuts, we wanted a reliable backup in case working from home wasn’t an option.
Fortunately, Ahangama has grown fast in recent years – and so has its infrastructure for remote workers. A few proper coworking spaces have opened their doors, including Nets Coworking, which launched in 2023. Nets was actually our first choice thanks to its solar panels – but I didn’t stop there. After digging a bit deeper, I discovered a variety of coworking spots around town. So get ready to find your ideal balance of work and surf in this tropical paradise!

Why work from Ahangama?
If you’re after a spot where you can surf in the morning and get decent Wi-Fi in the afternoon, Ahangama ticks a lot of boxes. It’s laid-back but not too sleepy – with a growing mix of cafés, coworking spaces, and digital nomad community. The surf is the main draw, especially for beginner and intermediate surfers. You’ve got around 10 surf spots within a 10-minute scooter ride, so mixing work with daily surf sessions is surprisingly easy.
It’s not perfect – some days are sweaty, and there’s always a tuk-tuk rattling past – but if you’re into the work-surf-repeat rhythm, this place makes it pretty easy to settle in.

This coworking and coliving space opened in the summer of 2023, offering the first proper coworking place in town. The interior design is cosy and thoughtfully arranged, with actual office chairs and desks – plus AC in the main coworking area. With solar panels, the space stays powered during local outages, which you’ll really appreciate the first time the electricity cuts mid-call.
What to Expect at Nets Coworking
- Nets has three small call booths, which are perfect for Zoom calls or quiet focus sessions – just make sure to book ahead on WhatsApp. The monthly pass includes 16 hours of booth access, or you can book by the hour for 3 EUR. Heads up: there’s no AC inside the booths, just a fan.
- The space runs 24/7, and access costs 9 EUR per day or 150 EUR per month, with drinks like coffee, tea, and water included. There are no fixed desks, so seating is first-come, first-served – although regulars do get “reserved” tags. They’ve also got one monitor available to rent if you need a second screen.
- The nearest surf spot (The Cove) is just 400 m away, and there’s even a shower in the coworking space, so you can rinse off before your next meeting. And if you get hungry, there are plenty of local restaurants nearby that deliver straight to your desk.
- The staff are super friendly, and we loved that they hire local Sri Lankan women exclusively – a really thoughtful touch.
- Downsides? The pool is coliving-only, and the access road is rough, so make sure you’re confident on a scooter.

2. Focus Hub

Focus Hub is the second coworking space in Ahangama, and it’s a pretty nice spot. Just off the main road, it’s easy to find and even easier to park your scooter thanks to the spacious parking lot out front. Inside, there’s plenty of room to spread out, with a mix of wooden and office-style furniture that’s both cosy and practical. Need to take a call? The two call booths have you covered, and there’s a meeting room ready to go.
What really sets Focus Hub apart is the location. Right in the heart of Ahangama, you’re close to surf spots and lunch options – ideal for sneaking in a quick wave or snack break. When I visited, it was calm, quiet, and free from the usual hustle, which made it perfect for getting things done.
At just 2,000 LKR per day (~€6.50) or 35,000 LKR per month (€114), it’s a solid option for digital nomads on a budget.
⚡️According to their Instagram, they installed solar panels in late 2024 – so by now, you should be covered during power cuts.
✅ Pros: | ❌ Cons: |
---|---|
Call booths & a meeting room Office chairs Solar panels (NEW!) Central location (walkable to everything) Food and drinks available on-site Budget-friendly | No outdoor space Interior feels a bit used Not much light when the shutters are down |

Ceylon Café is a small café and guesthouse that also includes a simple but functional coworking space in Ahangama. It’s not a full-blown office setup, but it does the job if you need to get a bit of work done in between surf sessions or beach walks.
The main workspace has a large table with some office chairs, seating up to six people. Just a heads-up: there’s no AC, only fans – so it can get hot, especially in the middle of the day. If you prefer working outside, the terrace offers a more comfortable setup with garden views and fresh air. At just 1,500 LKR (5 USD or 5 EUR) per day, it’s one of the most budget-friendly coworking spaces in Ahangama.
Kabalana Beach is right across the road, so it’s easy to fit in a surf or swim during your break.
✅ Pros: | ❌ Cons: |
---|---|
Some office chairs Food and drinks on-site Close to Kabalana Beach Super budget-friendly Big outdoor space with a nice garden view | No AC (only fans) No call booths No real community vibe |
4. Samba
📞 Phone: +94773353025
📸 Social media: Instagram
📍 Location: GoogleMaps
Samba is a cosy little spot just outside the busy center of Ahangama, right along the main road. It’s not a typical coworking setup – more of a mix between a restaurant, guesthouse, and workspace. Still, for a quick work session, it covers the basics: office chairs, sturdy tables, good AC, and even a monitor.
There’s also food on-site, and The Cove surf spot is nearby, so it’s easy to fit in a morning session before diving into your tasks – especially handy if you’re working on a European schedule.
When I visited in February 2024, using the coworking space was free if you were already eating at the restaurant. By March, they started charging a 3,000 LKR (10 EUR) fee – but the nice part is, it works as a credit for food and drinks.
Samba doesn’t offer weekly or monthly passes, and the space is on the smaller side. But if you’re after a low-key coworking space in Ahangama with solid food and a comfortable setup, it’s a good choice for a day of work.
✅ Pros: | ❌ Cons: |
---|---|
Good AC Office furniture Coworking fee works as a restaurant credit Food and drinks available on-site | Very limited space No weekly or monthly packages Only open during restaurant hours |
5. Moochies
📞 Phone: +94765385910
📸 Social media: Instagram
📍 Location: GoogleMaps
Moochies is a mix of a restaurant, boutique shop, and a small coworking space in Ahangama. It’s sleek and modern, with prices leaning toward the higher end – but if you’re into avo toast and good coffee, this spot might win you over.
The daily fee is 3,500 LKR (11.50 EUR), which might seem like a lot – but you get 2,000 LKR credit for food and drinks, so it balances out if you’re staying for lunch.
If you’re planning to work, here’s what to expect: the tables are nice, the AC works well, and the interior is beautifully designed. The chairs, though, are standard restaurant seats – not ideal for long sessions. Moochies also follows restaurant opening hours, and there’s no weekly or monthly pass available. Still, it’s a good pick for a few hours of work in a nice space with solid food.
✅ Pros: | ❌ Cons: |
---|---|
Fancy, modern interior Food and drinks on-site (and very good!) AC | On the expensive side No weekly/monthly packages Only open during restaurant hours No office-style chairs or desks |
Conclusion: Coworking spaces in Ahangama
Ahangama has grown into a solid base for digital nomads, with two standout coworking spaces – Nets Coworking and Focus Hub – leading the way. Both offer reliable internet, office-style furniture, air conditioning, and even solar panels. That makes a big difference when it comes to working through power cuts.
On top of that, a handful of cafés and guesthouses around Ahangama now offer more casual setups where you can work for a few hours. These smaller spots might not be ideal for deep work, but they’re great for staying flexible. All in all, Ahangama now has a mix of options that make remote work not just possible, but pretty enjoyable.
PS. Although we booked a monthly pass in Nets, in the end, we worked for 3 months from home and didn’t need to go to a coworking. Our home had all we needed. If you want to know how to find accommodation in Ahangama for longer stays, check this article [soon available].
